- Mastoiditis
- SYMPTOMS include redness, tenderness and swelling over the mastoid bone that
- is located behind the ear, discharge from the ear canal, fever and ear pain.
- CAUSES. The mastoid bone may become inflamed from untreated or inadequately
- treated infection of the middle ear. This should be taken seriously because
- of the closeness to the brain. It could lead to brain abscess or meningitis.
- TREATMENT. Antibiotic treatment required. Surgery probably not needed.
